The Hum

‘The Hum’ was first reported in Bristol in the 1960s. It was described a mysterious, low, throbbing sound only felt by a certain few people. Since then, it has been reported all over the world; in the US, in Australia, Canada, all over Europe.

No one knows exactly what causes it, or, more accurately, no one can agree on it.

In this four part series, writer Richard Owen Collins speaks to sufferers of the hum, including a single mother from Bristol, a retired mechanical engineer from the US, a journalist from France, and a music composer from Canada. There may never be a consensus or solution, but there may be a way to live with it.
