The One Love Party – Approaching Fast!

The First ever One Love Party will soon be upon us on Friday 9th May at David Lloyd’s Champion suite in Ashton.

The event to raise funds for the “Help us get to Rio” campaign will be a celebration of the cities newest breakfast show with special guests, live performances and a chance to meet presenters from both Ujima radio & BCfm who jointly broadcast the show.

Whilst other broadcasters will be staying in swanky hotels and paid a salary to broadcast from this years World Cup in Brazil, The 5 strong  One Love Breakfast team have relied on donations and their own money to plan a trip that will see them not only work with local Brazilian youngsters but also broadcast 5 hours a day live from Rio and connect communities back in Bristol.

KLM /Air France have provided 2 free flights and subsidised the other three whilst the presenters themselves have so far contributed over £1800 of their own money. Many of them have had to take unpaid leave from their jobs to go on this trip but all of them believe it’s going to be worth all the hard work to be able to broadcast back to their muched love city for a week.

So listeners and local businesses can now support the campaign by attending the “One Love Party” and having an entire table of 10 or just coming along and getting involved in the fun. Bristol’s Lord Mayor is due to join the proceedings too.

There’ll be an auction and food is incuded in the cost of the tickets. There are currently some earlybird £10 tickets available from the event page here: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-one-love-party-tickets-9765987331 these will then go to the full £15 cost once they run out.

Anyone interested in donating auction prizes, funds or just wanting to help can contact campaign Manager Harriet Robinson at harrietrobinson1@hotmail.co.uk . Harriet is keen that the event will be a sell out saying “It would be amazing if all of those people that we have helped or supported over the last 18 minths can now support us and have an amazing night too”

Community Radio Show goes Global. Volunteers to broadcast from the World Cup in June.

-Begins-
Award winning local morning show ‘The One Love Breakfast’ recently made an initial joke a reality by being offered flights to broadcast their show from Brazil during the world cup in June!

The volunteer presenters from community radio station BCfm (93.2) who share their breakfast broadcast with fellow community station Ujima were talking on air about their plan to experience the culture of Brazil during the world cup.

Pat Hart & Harriet Robinson then went a step further and launched a Facebook campaign and tweeted various airlines with their campaign to take the “One Love Breakfast to Brazil 2014”. To their surprise they received an email from Air France/KLM who offered to fly  both of them to Rio De Janeiro with a further 4 places discounted.

Sponsors from the business community are being invited to get involved to help raise the remaining funds needed to make the trip a reality for the team of volunteers.
Sponsors are promised a very high profile during the broadcast’s, which will go out live on ‘One love Breakfast’.

26 year old Harriet Robinson has been a volunteer at the station for over 6 years.

Harriet said:

“We were totally shocked that a group of volunteers will get such an amazing opportunity to bring the culture and excitement of the Fifa World Cup to such an amazingly diverse city like Bristol, It just goes to show that if you dare to dream and work hard enough then your dream could really become a reality”

A team of up to six volunteers will broadcast from 7am until 10am from Rio de Janeiro for a week across the two stations in Bristol with an estimated audience of around 20,000 daily listeners.

The broadcast will also focus on the community in and around the stadium and will link up with the local Brazilian community here in Bristol. BCfm Station Manager Pat Hart believes that it’s an amazing opportunity for the presenters.

Pat said:
“As a community station we are a training ground for so many presenters who eventually go on to work on the BBC or Independent radio increasing their employability and self-confidence. We’ve already broadcast alongside the BBC at last year’s St Paul’s carnival, The Harbour Festival and an array of high profile events but if we can raise enough funds this will top it all.”
