Volunteers off to Rio – to broadcast from the World Cup in Brazil.

Press call – Wednesday 11th June 2014 – 11.45am – Beacon Centre City Academy Bristol

Award winning local morning show ‘The One Love Breakfast’ are preparing to report from the most talked about sporting event in the world.  The community station Bcfm (93.2) are sending their team of 5 to  the Fifa World Cup in Rio to present their flagship programme every morning for a week. They will also be producing a daily afternoon sports & culture show as well as sending reports to a host of other media organisations.

The idea came from an initial joke between Station Manager Patrick Hart  and Presenter Harriet Robinson, when they jessed about being offered flights to the Fifa World Cup in Brazil. A tweet was picked up from Air France/KLM who consequently offered two free flights and 3 discounted tickets.  The BCfm volunteers then raised a further £3,000 to make the trip a reality.

Station Manager Pat is thrilled and ready for the challenge he said “This will be an experience of a life time for all of us.  We have had a lot of support  and encouragement.  It’s fitting that  our station will be reporting live from an event reflecting diversity, because BCfm are proud to  reflect the diversity of Bristol every day of the week”.

He went on to say “As a community station we are a training ground for so many presenters who eventually go on to work on the BBC or Independent radio increasing their employability and self-confidence. We’ve already broadcast alongside the BBC at last year’s St Paul’s carnival, The Harbour Festival and an array of high profile events but this gig this will top it all.”

The five multi skilled presenters, producers and technicians fly out on June 11th.

They plan to capture the ambiance and atmosphere the Fifa World Cup has to offer.  They’ll also be working with local children and of course interviewing supporters from all over the world.

The team will broadcast from 7am until 10am (UK time) from Rio de Janeiro for a week across Bcfm , Ujima Radio & Glastonbury FM. The three stations in Bristol have an estimated audience of around 25,000 daily listeners.

The business community are being invited to get involved by sponsoring the live programmes.

The broadcasters will be leaving for Rio from the Bcfm studios at the Beacon Centre, Russell Town Avenue, St George BS5 9JH on 11th June at 11.30am.  Press are invited to see them off. off
